About

Professor Brookman is from Salem, Virginia where he attended Roanoke College as an undergraduate. He continued his academic studies in English at Virginia Commonwealth University, earning an M.A. He has taught at VCU for more than 30 years and is a founding member of the Department of Focused Inquiry. His interests include trends and patterns in student writing, and first generation college students. For many years he was a prolific indie songwriter. He has two daughters.
